The tournament bracket for this year’s Maui Invitational — which is being played in Asheville as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic — was revealed on Wednesday, with UNC set to take on UNLV in its first-round matchup.

In five games all-time against UNLV, the Tar Heels have gone 4-1. UNLV’s lone win was a 90-80 victory in 2011, at a time when UNC was ranked No. 1 in the country. The Tar Heels got revenge the next year, though, with a 79-73 win in what was the most recent meeting between the teams.

Making up the rest of the eight-team Maui field is a list of schools including: Alabama, Stanford, Texas, Davidson, Providence and Indiana. If victorious in their game, UNC would then face the winner of either Stanford or Alabama.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on Nov. 30 and run through Dec. 2 at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville. The NCAA previously ruled that the college basketball season can begin as soon as Nov. 25.

UNC has won the Maui Invitational in each of the last three seasons ending in national championship victories.
