Over the past couple seasons the UNC football team has drawn criticism for playing schedules containing two Football Championship Subdivision opponents–teams that are traditionally much less talented.

On Thursday, it was announced, however, that the Tar Heels have agreed to play a home-and-home series against a perennial Big 12 contender in the TCU Horned Frogs.

While both teams have been highly successful in recent years, the terms of this particular deal call for games in 2025 and 2026.

With the games scheduled so far out, it’s nearly impossible to project what each team could look like at that time.

It’s certainly a step in the right direction for the Tar Heels, though, as they look to increase their national exposure by playing big-time opponents.

TCU will travel to Chapel Hill for the opener on Sept. 13, 2025, while UNC will make the trip to Fort Worth, Texas on Sept. 12, 2026.

The Tar Heels have won all three previous meetings between the schools, taking home victories in 1940, 1994 and 1997.
