A list of 62 preseason candidates for this year’s Doak Walker Award–given annually to the top running back in the nation–was released Wednesday night, with UNC sophomore Michael Carter making the cut.

Carter showed flashes of brilliance in his debut campaign last season, as he split carries in the backfield with rising junior Jordon Brown on the way to 559 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

The Florida native also caught 11 passes for 100 yards and a score as well.

Headlining the list of candidates for the honor is Stanford’s Bryce Love, a Raleigh native who returned to school for his senior season after claiming the Doak Walker Award in 2017.
