The UNC football program received great news Thursday morning when senior linebacker Tomon Fox announced he will use his extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA and return to the team next season.

Fox has played in 44 games for the Tar Heels over the last five seasons, racking up 21.5 career sacks during that span–a number good enough to move him past Lawrence Taylor for fifth on the school’s all-time list.

He has started every game over the last two seasons and ended each year with a team-high seven sacks.

With this decision, Fox joins receiver Beau Corrales, tight end Garrett Walston, kicker Grayson Atkins and linebacker Tyrone Hopper as seniors who will be back in 2021.

The Tar Heels will now also return 21 of their 22 starters next season from last Saturday’s Orange Bowl against No. 5 Texas A&M.
