UNC junior linebacker Khadry Jackson is entering the NCAA transfer portal according to various sources which reported the news Monday evening.

Jackson played in 25 games over his first two seasons in Chapel Hill, totaling 17 tackles in 2020 while playing 67 snaps at linebacker.

He was expected to be a primary backup this season for starters Jeremiah Gemmel and Eugene Asante.

UNC head coach Mack Brown said last week that he expected some players to want to enter the transfer portal as their roles became clearer within the team.

“There’ll be uncomfortable conversations, in some cases, because you’re gonna have to tell people, ‘You’re not going to start based on where we are right now,” Brown said. “You’re going to be a special teams player, you’re going to have a limited role.’

“And then we could have some players leave,” he added. “And we don’t know that they’ll leave next week, or we don’t know that they would leave until July 1. But you’re getting at a point where it’s really, really hard to replace those players.”

Freshmen Ra’Ra Dillworth and Power Echols will likely receive increased playing time as a result of Jackson’s transfer.

Jackson was a part of UNC’s 2019 recruiting class, coming to campus as the No. 857 overall prospect and No. 68 ranked safety in the country according to 24/7 Sports.
