Tight end Jake Johnson, who spent the last two seasons with Texas A&M, committed to the UNC football program out of the transfer portal on Monday. He will have two years of eligibility remaining. Johnson joins his brother Max, who committed to Carolina out of the portal in November.

Johnson caught at least one pass in nine of the Aggies’ 12 games this season, including reeling in a season-high six against Louisiana-Monroe in September. He finished the season with 24 catches for 235 yards and four touchdowns.

Johnson will join a UNC tight end room which is losing Kamari Morales, who is transferring to Boston College. First team All-ACC honoree Bryson Nesbit and John Copenhaver are both eligible to enter the NFL Draft, but neither has announced a decision. Both Nesbit and Copenhaver will miss UNC’s bowl game on December 27.

Johnson is the third player to commit to the Tar Heels out of the portal. He joins his brother Max and former Georgia offensive lineman Austin Blaske, who committed earlier in December.
