Four-star cornerback Dontae Balfour out of Bradford High School in Starke, Florida announced Wednesday that he is committing to the UNC football program.

Balfour is the No. 17 cornerback in the country according to 24/7 Sports and the No. 233 player overall among the Class of 2021. He chose UNC over fellow finalists LSU and Auburn on National Signing Day, after most of the Tar Heels’ recruiting class signed during the early period in December.

At 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Balfour has a long, athletic frame — which he used to excel on both offense and defense in high school. He led Bradford with 77 tackles and four interceptions, while also leading the team with 25 catches for 268 yards and two touchdowns.

Cornerbacks coach Dre Bly was the lead recruiter in pursuit of Balfour, with reports saying the two first made contact in December and UNC offered a scholarship on Christmas Eve.

The Tar Heels have now completed their Class of 2021, which was listed as the No. 14 ranked class in the country.
