No. 5 UNC — yes, you read that right — travels to Tallahassee this weekend to face off against the struggling Florida State Seminoles.

The undefeated Tar Heels are coming off of an explosive 56-45 win over Virginia Tech. Running backs Michael Carter and Javonte Williams — perhaps the best combination of backs in the country — each totaled 200 yards from scrimmage.

Meanwhile, Florida State sits at 1-3 on the season with its lone win coming against FCS Jacksonville State. The ‘Noles have faced one of the most difficult schedules so far this season, having traveled to both Miami and Notre Dame within the first few weeks. Head coach Mike Norvell missed FSU’s game against Miami after testing positive for coronavirus, but he is since back on the sidelines.

Still, UNC isn’t looking past Florida State.

“They’re a really good team,” Sam Howell told reporters earlier this week. “Their record doesn’t really show how good they are. They’re very talented and I think this is the most talented team we’ve played so far. So, it’s a great matchup for us. We’ve got to be prepared.”

The last time UNC played a game while ranked in the top five came in a 20-3 loss to Florida State in 1997. Mack Brown – the winningest active head coach in college football — is 0-9 against the Seminoles in his career.

North Carolina is an 8-point favorite over Florida State at the time of publishing.
