As Tar Heel Football fans count down the days to the 2021 season, they now know which day the opener will be held.

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday the Carolina football team’s initial game of the new season against Virginia Tech will take place on Friday, Sept. 3.

When the ACC schedule was initially revealed back in January, a date for this opening game had yet to be decided.

The Tar Heels and Hokies will be the conference’s first game of the new season, as UNC looks to make it two straight wins against head coach Justin Fuente and company after winning 56-45 last year.

The official kickoff time and television details will be released at a later date, according to the conference.
