The outlook for next year’s UNC men’s basketball team changed dramatically on Tuesday.

Roughly 10 hours after securing the commitment of five-star guard Cole Anthony, UNC received a signed letter of intent from Anthony Harris, a four-star combo guard.

Harris, of Woodbridge, Virginia, had signed with Virginia Tech, but he was released from that after head coach Buzz Williams left the Hokies to take the helm at Texas A&M. Harris then re-opened his recruitment and quickly scheduled a visit to Chapel Hill.

“Anthony’s a remarkable young man,” UNC head coach Roy Williams said in a university release announcing Harris had signed with Carolina. “I love his toughness and competitiveness. A team can never have enough of these qualities. We are very fortunate to have a player of his caliber join our program. His parents (Anthony Sr. and Meecsha Harris) have done a great job raising him and Coach Farello has done a tremendous job coaching him at Paul VI. He’s a great addition to our program.”

Harris joins Anthony, Armando Bacot and Jeremiah Francis in the 2019 recruiting class for UNC. Harris and Bacot played together on Team Takeover, which won the Nike Peach Jam this year.

Harris is recovering from an ACL tear, but Inside Carolina cites his high school coach as saying the recovery is going smoothly and the expectation is Harris will be ready to play next fall in Chapel Hill.

The incoming class will have big shoes to fill. UNC lost seniors Luke Maye and Kenny Williams, grad transfer Cam Johnson and two freshmen – Coby White and Nassir Little – from last year’s Sweet 16 team.
