ACC Player of the Week Aaron Sabato homered on Tuesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium, while Angel Zarate drove in a team-high three runs to help guide the UNC baseball team to a 13-6 victory over the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs.

The win snaps what had been a three-game losing streak for the Tar Heels (11-7), who were swept by Notre Dame in their first ACC series of the season.

Tuesday’s game saw UNC jump out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning after Sabato hit a solo blast–his fifth bomb in the last six games–followed by an RBI double from Joey Lancellotti and a throwing error by Gardner-Webb which allowed Dallas Tessar to come home.

Zarate would add a sacrifice fly in the second inning to put the Tar Heels ahead by three runs, but the Bulldogs answered with four runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead right back.

UNC responded with two runs in the home half of the fourth to re-take the lead, before exploding for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding advantage.

Gardner-Webb was only able to muster a single run the rest of the way, which came in the top of the sixth frame.

For the game, the Tar Heels tallied 13 hits while the Bulldogs racked up 10.

Nik Pry was credited with the win on the mound for UNC, as he threw the fourth, fifth and sixth innings out of the bullpen.
