The highly-ranked North Carolina men’s and women’s lacrosse teams had a pair of top-25 games over the weekend with different outcomes for the Tar Heels.
The third-ranked UNC women’s team won its fifth game in a row, and fourth consecutive road game, over the weekend with a victory at No. 12 Boston College.
The Eagles were flying high after a win over No. 2 Syracuse before the matchup with the Tar Heels.
Carolina came out firing, building up an 8-1 lead in the first half. But Boston College closed the gap before halftime and cut the lead to 11-10 with more than 16 minutes left to play.
The Tar Heels scored two insurances goal to extend the margin to 13-10 before Boston College scored the final two goals of the game to bring the final score to 13-12.
Carolina will be back on Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill on Wednesday as the Tar Heels host Virginia Tech.
Meanwhile, the sixth-ranked Maryland Terrapins knocked off No. 12 North Carolina in College Park on Saturday.
Maryland led throughout the majority of the game. The Tar Heels pulled within two goals at 8-6 in the third quarter but could never get over the hump.
The Terrapins held UNC scoreless over a 16-minute stretch in the second half to secure the win.
No. 17 Carolina has another tough matchup on the horizon, travelling to Durham to take on No. 11 Duke on Friday.
