UNC head men’s basketball coach Roy Williams received quite the gift on Wednesday, as three highly-talented recruits in the Class of 2018 each signed their National Letters of Intent to play at UNC next season.
Although Rechon “Leaky” Black, Coby White and Nassir Little had all verbally committed to Williams and the Tar Heels, this news makes the deal official.
“These three young men make my staff and me feel very fortunate and pleased with this class,” the coach said, in a statement released by the university.
Little–a 6-foot-6 forward from Orlando ranked No. 14 in ESPN’s list of Top 100 recruits–is the top-ranked player in UNC’s class.
A versatile player who can play multiple positions, Williams said of Little, “He has the potential to be a great scorer and a big-time defender. He can shoot the ball from the outside, he is very athletic finishing plays around the rim and just has the total package as a basketball player. “
White is a 6-foot-3 point guard who resides in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The Greenfield High School standout is ranked No. 25 on ESPN’s Top 100 list and has been committed to UNC since his sophomore year.
“It was one of the happiest days of my coaching career because I think he is such a wonderful prospect,” Williams said, of the day White committed. “He’s 6-5 and can play both guard positions, can shoot the ball extremely well and is very athletic attacking the basket. He pushed the ball hard in transition and will fit in well here.”
Rounding out the talented class is Black, another in-state player who committed to the Tar Heels as a sophomore. At nearly 6-foot-8, Black has the length of a forward but the skill set of a guard–which should allow Williams to use the Concord native in unique ways.
ESPN ranks Black as its No. 48 overall player in the Class of 2018.
“He keeps getting bigger and stronger,” Williams said, of Black. “So we have no idea what position he will play because he’s so versatile and he keeps growing so much. He truly has a tremendous future.”
