After snow in Chapel Hill postponed a pair of season-opening men’s tennis matches during the week, the third-ranked Tar Heels were forced to open the season on Saturday.

There were no ill effects from the delay, however, as UNC rolled past Bucknell 7-0 in its first match of the afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center before sweeping Wofford 4-0 later in the day.

The Tar Heels didn’t drop a set in either match, even without using star players William Blumberg and Robert Kelly in the early action.

UNC quickly cruised to the doubles point against Bucknell with a pair of 6-1 victories, before really putting the hammer down in singles competition.

While winning all six singles matches, no Tar Heel dropped more than two games during any of their sets–of which there were 12 in total.

Freshmen Benjamin Sigouin and Mac Kiger each picked up their first collegiate victories in the match as well.

The clean sweep was a solid primer for UNC’s next match against Wofford, which was slated for a 3 p.m. start time.

Not much time was needed in that one, either, as the Tar Heels cruised to their second win of the day without much trouble.
