The UNC men’s and women’s tennis teams will both compete in their respective NCAA Championships this month, and both will do so with a national seed. The women’s program earned the No. 1 overall seed for the third season in a row, while the men earned the No. 16 overall seed.

The women’s program enters the championship with a 29-1 overall record and an ITA indoor national title under its belt. As a national seed, the Tar Heels will host a pod of four teams at the new Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill. The other three teams in the pod are Charleston Southern, Old Dominion and South Carolina. UNC will face Charleston Southern in the first round, tentatively scheduled for Friday. Should seeding hold, Carolina would face No. 8 Texas, who defeated the Tar Heels in last season’s Final Four, in the national quarterfinals.

ACC teams make up five of the 16 national seeds, including No. 3 NC State, No. 6 Duke, No. 12 Virginia and No. 14 Miami. For a complete look at the women’s bracket, click here.

On the men’s side, the Tar Heels enter the championship with a 17-8 overall record and a 9-3 record in conference play. Like the women’s team, the men will host a pod of four teams at the Chewning Center. The teams alongside Carolina in that pod are Drake, Old Dominion and Utah. UNC will face Drake in the first round. In addition, several singles players and doubles teams from both programs qualified for the NCAA individual championships. The women’s program will send five singles players to the field of 64, equaling the program record set two years ago. Fiona Crawley, Abbey Forbes, Carson Tanguilig, Anika Yarlagadda and Reese Brantmeier will each compete, with Crawley and Brantmeier earning national seeds. The doubles teams of Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty and Crawley and Tanguilig will play in the doubles tournament.

On the men’s side, Brian Cernoch and Ryan Seggerman will each compete in the singles tournament, and Seggerman and Casey Kania will play in the 32-team doubles field. Cernoch and Benjamin Kittay are first alternates for the doubles field.

The NCAA singles and doubles championships will be held from May 22 through May 27 in Orlando, after the conclusion of the team championships.
