The fifth-ranked UNC women’s tennis team began its regular season Saturday morning in dominant fashion, with a pair of clean, 7-0 sweeps over the William & Mary Tribe and the Richmond Spiders in Williamsburg.
Against William & Mary, UNC took the doubles point with a pair of easy 6-1 victories. The Tar Heels then went on to take each of the six singles matches while dropping just two sets in the process.
Sara Daavettilla put on arguably the most impressive performance of the match, as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over William & Mary’s Ekaterina Stepanova.
With the showdown against Richmond scheduled for later in the afternoon, the early portion of the day went about as well as head coach Brian Kalbas could have hoped for–keeping his players fresh and ready to go for that next match.
The fresh Tar Heels ultimately swept the Spiders without losing a set at all, starting the season off on the right note.
