With a 7-0 victory over William & Mary on Wednesday in Chapel Hill, the top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team improved to 16-0 this season and extended its program-record winning streak to 34 matches.
The Tar Heels won the doubles point to take the early lead on Wednesday, then received some great singles performances from some players who aren’t always in the lineup.
Graduate student Makenna Jones was the veteran of the group and was the first to win her match, doing so by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
Kacie Harvey (6-1, 6-1) and Alle Sanford (6-2, 6-1) were next to finish, clinching the overall team win for UNC.
Sophomore Anika Yarlagaada (6-4, 6-2) then joined freshmen Reilly Tran (6-1, 6-4) and Fiona Crawley (7-5, 6-0) in completing the dominant team victory–as no Tar Heel player dropped a single set.
William & Mary fell to 2-4 this season with the loss.
