A tag team of Tylers will take the microphone next to Jones Angell for radio broadcasts of the upcoming UNC men’s basketball season.

The Tar Heel Sports Network — operated by Tar Heel Sports Properties and owned by Learfield — announced Tuesday that former UNC stars Tyler Zeller and Tyler Hansbrough will handle the color analyst duties in 2024-25. The pair of former All-Americans and ACC Players of the Year were part of a rotating quartet of former players, including Marcus Ginyard and Pete Chilcutt, who called games the previous season in the wake of Eric Montross’ battle with cancer and death in December.

“You don’t replace Eric Montross, but you try to honor him and the first-class manner in which he represented Carolina,” Chuck Schroeder, Vice President and General Manager of Tar Heel Sports Properties, said in a release, “and the four of them did that all season. We can’t thank them enough.

“This season,” he added, “we’ll go forward with Tyler Zeller and Tyler Hansbrough sharing these duties and joining Jones and our entire broadcast crew as we bring what promises to be another exciting season of Carolina Basketball to our fans listening all over the globe.”

Zeller handled the color commentary during UNC’s 84-76 exhibition win against Memphis on Tuesday. The release did not specify how the duo will split time, but Angell said on Tuesday’s Carolina Insider Podcast that Zeller will handle the majority of games while Hansbrough calls about a quarter of them. Angell also posted on social media to thank all the analysts who filled in during the 2023-24 season.

UNC earned a No. 9 preseason ranking by the Associated Press on Monday and was predicted by ACC media members to finish second in the conference on Tuesday. The Tar Heels’ regular season will start on Monday, Nov. 4 with a game vs. Elon after a final exhibition game against Johnson C. Smith on Sunday, Oct. 27.
