In a doubleheader on Saturday in Chapel Hill as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, the No. 25 UNC softball team split a pair of games against No. 11 Michigan and Wisconsin.

The first game of the day saw Michigan (8-0) remain undefeated with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Tar Heels (5-4), while UNC bounced back later in the day with a 4-3 win over Wisconsin–scoring all four of its runs in the third inning.

Hannah George pitched a complete game in the win, while Abby Settlemyre had a two-run double to help spearhead the Tar Heel offense in the game-changing third inning.

That win was also the 1,300th career victory for UNC head coach Donna J. Papa.

“Although the first game didn’t go the way we wanted, to be able to come back and finish strong builds momentum for this team,” Papa said afterwards. “Hannah was great in the circle, especially striking out the leadoff at the end who homered to start. We made a lot of nice defensive plays. Wisconsin is a really good team, but Hannah moved the ball well. We were able to pass the bat and get runs on the board to back her up in the circle.”
