After throwing for a career-high 376 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday’s 38-22 win over Georgia Tech, UNC quarterback Sam Howell was recognized Sunday by Athlon Sports as the National Offensive Freshman of the Week.

Howell completed 33 of his 51 pass attempts in the victory, coming just five completions shy of tying the all-time single-game school record in the category–which was set by Marquise Williams back in 2014.

Through six games of his first collegiate season, Howell is completing just over 63 percent of his passes for 1,544 yards. The native of Monroe, NC has also thrown 15 touchdown passes compared to only three interceptions.

Howell’s development has been a driving force in the quick turnaround of the program being engineered by head coach Mack Brown.
