UNC offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Phil Longo was selected Tuesday as a semifinalist for this year’s Broyles Award, which is presented annually to the top assistant coach in college football.
Under Longo’s guidance, the Tar Heel offense ranks fourth nationally with an average of 556.6 yards per game and has crossed the 700-yard mark twice this season–including setting a school record with 778 total yards in last week’s win over Miami.
In addition, UNC’s average of 43 points per game ranks fifth among schools from the Power Five conferences.
Longo is one of 15 assistant coaches that were selected as semifinalists for the Broyles Award. That field will eventually be narrowed down to five finalists before a winner is chosen.
