ACC play got off to a great start for the sixth-ranked UNC men’s tennis team Thursday afternoon, as the Tar Heels took down the rival Duke Blue Devils with ease by a score of 4-1.
It was the first outdoor match of the season at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill for UNC, which improved to 8-2 overall this season and 1-0 against conference opponents.
Duke fell to 5-6 overall and 0-1 inside the ACC.
The Tar Heels took the doubles point to begin the proceedings on Thursday, then closed out the victory with wins in singles competition from Simon Soendergaard (6-1, 6-2), Blaine Boyden (6-4, 6-2) and Brian Cernoch (7-6, 6-3).
