The fourth-ranked UNC men’s tennis team improved its record to 5-0 this season on Saturday in Chapel Hill, as the Tar Heels pulled off a 4-0 shutout win over the No. 19 Illinois Fighting Illini.
After taking the doubles to point to begin the match, the Tar Heels clinched the victory with three consecutive victories in singles competition–all of which came in straight sets.
Josh Peck (6-2, 6-0) was the first to win, followed shortly after by William Blumberg (6-2, 6-2) and Brian Cernoch (6-1, 7-5). All six of UNC’s players won the first set of their respective matches.
The Tar Heels are still yet to give up a point this season, winning every singles and doubles match through their first five contests.
