UNC quarterback Nathan Elliott announced Friday that he will be leaving graduate school and the football team in Chapel Hill to take a graduate assistant coaching position at Arkansas State.

Elliott, who would have been entering his final year of eligibility for the Tar Heels in 2019, started nine of UNC’s 11 games last year behind center–throwing for 2,169 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The Texas native was benched multiple times in favor of other options like Chazz Surratt, Cade Fortin and Jace Ruder, but continued to get back into the starting lineup thanks to a rash of injuries at quarterback.
