UNC announced Saturday prior to its home football game against Clemson that starting strong safety Myles Wolfolk and backup quarterback Jace Ruder are each out indefinitely with lower body injuries.
Both players left last week’s game against Appalachian State, and were questionable heading into Saturday’s showdown with the defending national champions.
Wolfolk–a junior–has been a key piece in the UNC secondary, leading the Tar Heels with three interceptions this season.
In limited action behind starter Sam Howell, Ruder has completed one of his two passes for seven yards and ran the ball four times for 22 yards. His only play last week against Appalachian State was a one-yard rush on which he was injured.
With Cade Fortin announcing his intentions to transfer prior to the season, Ruder’s injury leaves freshman walk-on Vincent Amendola as the Tar Heels’ backup quarterback.
