Fresh off the most successful season in UNC men’s tennis history, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association recognized a pair of Tar Heels with national awards on Tuesday for their efforts.

Ronnie Schneider earned the ITA National Senior of the Year award, while William Blumberg took home the ITA National Freshman of the Year award.

Each player is just the second in UNC history to earn their respective honors.

Schneider is a four-time All-ACC selection, who finished his career with a 120-46 record in singles competition and a 93-32 mark in doubles play.

He also helped guide the team to a school record 29 wins this past season, while consistently taking on the opposing team’s top players on Court One.

Blumberg, meanwhile, showed that he’s ready to take over that role from Schneider in the coming future.

Having graduated high school early to begin his career in Chapel Hill, Blumberg burst onto the scene in 2017 with a staggering 25-2 singles record–including a perfect 11-0 mark against ACC competition.

The ACC Freshman of the Year also won his last 19 matches and went 13-1 against ranked opponents.

UNC ultimately came up just short against Virginia in the NCAA Championship match on Tuesday, but Schneider and Blumberg were the two main reasons the Tar Heels were able to reach that point to begin with.
