UNC head football coach Mack Brown was one of 13 coaches placed on the watch list Thursday for the 2020 Dodd Trophy, which recognizes the national coach of the year.

Coaches in the first year with their new team or whose teams aren’t competing this fall are not eligible for the award.

Brown is coming off a year in which he led the Tar Heels to a 7-6 record and their first bowl victory since 2013, in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year.

The Hall-of-Famer–who is in the second year of his second tenure at the school–also became the all-time winningest coach in UNC history last season, moving past Dick Crum.

This year’s Dodd Trophy winner will be revealed in Atlanta during the week of the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.
