UNC junior forward Luke Maye was one of 20 finalists named to the Wooden Award Late-Season Watch List, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Monday evening.
The former walk-on from Huntersville has emerged as a bonafide star this season, and leads the Tar Heels with 18.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game–including 12 double-doubles and six games with at least 25 points.
Maye and Duke freshman forward Marvin Bagley III are the only two players from the ACC among the 20 players on the watch list for the award, which is college basketball’s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy.
Voting is conducted by a media contingent consisting of more than 1,000 members, and will take place after the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
The final ballot–which is announced in March–will ultimately include 15 players.
