UNC junior forward Luke Maye has captured the attention of many college basketball fans across the nation this season, as his incredible rise from walk-on to superstar has helped the Tar Heels put themselves in contention to potentially reach a third straight Final Four.

Although Maye’s work on the court has gotten plenty of attention this season, his work off the court has been done at a similarly high level–evidenced by his selection on Thursday to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District men’s basketball team.

The honor recognizes players for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Maye was one of six players selected to District 3–which includes North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee–and was the only one of those players who plays in the ACC.

A business administration student at the prestigious Kenan-Flagler Business School, Maye currently has a 3.45 grade point average to pair with his 18 points and 10.2 rebounds per game on the hardwood.

He also gained notoriety for his academic prowess during the NCAA Tournament last season when he was videotaped at his 8 a.m. class the morning after hitting the clutch shot against Kentucky that sent UNC from the Elite Eight to the Final Four.

All-District team selections are eligible to earn Academic All-American honors in March.

Other players from District 3 include: Jahaad Proctor (High Point), Paul Rowley (William and Mary), Tyler Seibring (Elon), Kevin Vannatta (UNC Asheville) and Dylan Windler (Belmont).
