It’s that time of year.
Basketball season has arrived in Chapel Hill, as UNC hosted its annual Late Night With Roy season kickoff event on Friday night at the Smith Center.
Fans were once again treated to the usual variety of skits and dance performances, as well as the team’s Blue-White scrimmage–which Theo Pinson and the Blue team won by a score of 35-30.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the night, however, came at the beginning–when the 2017 NCAA Championship banner was revealed to the crowd.

A similar reaction was created during player introductions when Pinson came out onto the court with the championship trophy in hand.
As far as the actual basketball being played, it’s tough to make too many conclusions from a half-speed scrimmage–but there were certainly some highlights.
Graduate transfer Cam Johnson–a 6-foot-7-inch wing who came to UNC from Pittsburgh during the offseason–gave Tar Heel fans plenty to look forward to, as he led all scorers with 13 points for the White team.
On the Blue side, Pinson led the team with eight points while junior forward Luke Maye chipped in seven.
Freshman guard Jalek Felton added six points for the Blue team, and flashed impressive quickness that may have reminded many in attendance of his uncle Raymond–the point guard for UNC’s 2005 national championship squad.
Other Late Night With Roy Notes:
- Former UNC standout, and current NBA analyst for TNT, Kenny Smith was the host of the event. His son, KJ, is a walk-on for the Tar Heels.
- Kennedy Meeks and Nate Britt, key members of last year’s championship team, were in attendance.
- Blue Team: Theo Pinson, Luke Maye, Jalek Felton, Seventh Woods, Brandon Huffman, Brandon Robinson, Shea Rush, Aaron Rohlman
- White Team: Joel Berry, Cam Johnson, Kenny Williams, Sterling Manley, Garrison Brooks, KJ Smith, Walker Miller, Andrew Platek
