UNC attackers Katie Hoeg and Caitlyn Wurzburger were each named to the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse All-Tournament Team on Tuesday for their efforts in guiding the Tar Heels to an appearance in the Final Four.

Both Hoeg and Wurzburger tallied three goals and an assist in UNC’s shocking 11-10 loss to Boston College in last Friday’s national semifinals.

Over the course of the Tar Heels’ three NCAA Tournament games — which also included wins over James Madison and Stony Brook — Hoeg racked up six goals and 10 assists while Wurzburger tallied seven goals and one assist.

A fifth-year senior, Hoeg ended her career as the all-time leading scorer in UNC history with 370 points — recording 137 goals and 233 assists during her time on campus.

Wurzburger appears more than ready to fill some of the void left behind by Hoeg, as she finished fourth on the team in scoring as a freshman this season with 53 points coming from 36 goals and 17 assists.

UNC was ranked No. 1 in the country from the beginning of the season all the way until the final IWCLA poll released earlier this week, where it fell two spots to No. 3 after the loss to Boston College.

The Tar Heels went 20-1 this season and carried a program-record 27-game winning streak into the Final Four.

Boston College led all schools with four players selected to the All-Tournament team, highlighted by Most Outstanding Player Charlotte North.

National runner-up Syracuse had three players earn the honor, while Northwestern tied with UNC at two apiece.
