Led by a game-high 28 points from junior center Janelle Bailey on Wednesday night at Carmichael Arena, the UNC women’s basketball team pulled away down the stretch on its way to a 78-58 victory over the Miami Hurricanes.
Bailey had 15 of her 28 points in the second half, in a game where UNC trailed for most of the night before finally pulling back ahead late in the third quarter.
The Tar Heels (13-4, 4-2 ACC) outsccored the Hurricanes (10-7, 2-4 ACC) 28-10 in the fourth quarter on the way to the blowout victory–their largest ACC win of the season.
In addition to Bailey’s dominance, UNC also received 16 points from Taylor Koenen and 10 from Shayla Bennett.
Defense was what ultimately led to the win, as the Tar Heels held Miami to just 34 percent shooting from the floor and forced the Hurricanes into 19 turnovers.
“That was a game we really felt we needed,” UNC head coach Courtney Banghart said afterwards.
