Head coach Sylvia Hatchell’s double-double machine has done it again.

It was announced Monday that for the seventh time this season, UNC freshman forward Janelle Bailey was voted the ACC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Although the Tar Heels closed out their regular season on a nine-game losing streak, Bailey has remained a bright spot all year long.

In two games this week against Syracuse and Duke, the native of Matthews, North Carolina averaged 18.5 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Bailey posted a monster 25-point, 12-rebound effort as UNC came up just short against Syracuse, which hit an ACC-record 20 three-pointers in an 86-80 victory over the Tar Heels.

She was then one of just two UNC players to score in double figures vs. the Blue Devils, posting 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 70-54 loss at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

So far this season, Bailey has averaged 15.4 points and a team-high 9.1 rebounds per game for UNC–including double-doubles in six of her past eight games.

Bailey and the Tar Heels will now look to keep their season alive on Wednesday as they face Boston College in the ACC Tournament.
