Although the season has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start for the UNC women’s basketball team, the same can’t be said for the start of freshman forward Janelle Bailey’s collegiate career.

The ACC announced Monday that Bailey–a McDonald’s All-American coming out of Providence Day School in Matthews, North Carolina–was named the league’s Rookie of the Week.

It’s the first time she’s earned the honor, but there’s a good chance it may not be the last.

Bailey notched her first career double-double in UNC’s blowout win over Radford last week, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She then posted 17 points and five rebounds in Sunday’s upset loss to South Alabama before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter.

Joining Bailey in being recognized by the ACC was Louisville senior forward Myisha Hines-Allen, who was named the conference Player of the Week after averaging 17.7 points and 10 rebounds while leading the Cardinals to three wins.

Bailey and UNC will return to action on Wednesday in Chapel Hill against UNC-Wilmington.
