US Lacrosse magazine selected UNC junior Jamie Ortega as its Women’s Preseason National Player of the Year on Wednesday, as she prepares to lead the top-ranked Tar Heels into the 2020 campaign.

Through her first two seasons in Chapel Hill, Ortega already ranks 12th in program history with 198 points and eighth all-time in goals with 151.

In 2019, Ortega set the program record with 112 points and became the first Tar Heel to ever hit the century mark in a single season. She was also named the ACC Tournament MVP after racking up 13 goals and six assists during that critical three-game stretch.

As a freshman in 2018, Ortega broke the program’s all-time rookie goal-scoring record with 70. The previous mark before her arrival was 50.
