CHAPEL HILL – UNC Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Communications and former UNC linebacker, Rick Steinbacher, says he and the entire athletic department are very excited about the changes to the game day experience on campus this year.
“The biggest one is Tar Heel Town has moved,” Steinbacher says. “It’s no longer going to be in Polk Place. We’ve moved it to the new Bell Tower Park area, which is right in front of the football center. I tell folks, just get to the bell tower and listen for music, and you’ll find the new Tar Heel Town.”
Steinbacher stopped by the WCHL studios Tuesday morning to talk with Ron Stutts about the game day experience.

All the festivities begin three hours before kickoff for each home game. And, your first chance to see the team comes not long after that.
“The team will do their new victory walk through the bell tower park area,” Steinbacher says. “They’ll get there about two and a half hours before kickoff, so you’ll want to be there (at) about 10:00 to get a good spot to see them come through.”
Tar Heel Town will also feature fun for the kids such as face painting and bounce houses. And, there will be different live musical entertainment each week.
