After spending the fall making one of the most memorable kicks in UNC football history–not to mention climbing up the school’s all-time scoring list–senior kicker Nick Weiler earned a different type of achievement on Wednesday.

Weiler was one of 23 ACC players selected to be part of the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society–which is made up of college football players across the country who maintained a 3.2 GPA throughout their careers.

This year saw a whopping total of 1,089 players from 297 schools earn the distinction, both single-season records for the program.

“We are pleased to see a record number of colleges and universities embrace the Hampshire Honor Society this year,” NFF President and CEO Steve Hatchell said, in a released statement. “Over the past decade, it has become a powerful vehicle for schools to recognize their college football players who have distinguished themselves both academically and athletically.

Following his final game as a Tar Heel last December, Weiler ranked third at UNC in career points (273) and fifth in field goals made (40). He also was a two-time All-ACC selection at kicker, and a two-time All-ACC Academic selection.
