Former NCCU quarterback Michael Wayne Johnson, Jr. was charged on the basis of arranging a May 2010 meeting  between Georgia sports agent Terry Watson and former UNC receiver Greg Little. Around $5000 was exchanged in this meeting, according to a previous indictment.

In addition, Johnson has been accused of providing a mailing address to accept packages of cash for Little. Johnson was expected in court Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Friday, Willie Barley, the man who connected former UNC defender Marvin Austin with Watson, was charged with athlete-agent inducement. Barley was released on $30,000 bond.

Spurred on by the NCAA’s own investigations, the Secretary of State’s Office began their own investigation. So far, criminal charges against five people have been filed.

-Jennifer Lauren Wiley Thompson – academic tutor for UNC athletes

-Terry Watson – faces 13 felony counts of athlete-agent inducement

-Patrick Jones – Georgia real estate agent charged with providing money

-Barley and Johnson

George Jeter, a spokesman for the Secretary of State’s Office says that the investigation is focused only on sports agents, not schools or players.
