With Greg Robinson and Tommy Thigpen now in place as the co-defensive coordinators under new UNC head football coach Mack Brown, former Tar Heel standout cornerback Dre Bly became the latest to join the new staff.

Inside Carolina’s Greg Barnes reported late Thursday afternoon that Bly–a member of the College Football Hall of Fame–will return to UNC as a defensive assistant.

It will be his first job coaching at the collegiate level, with his only previous experience coming as an assistant at Myers Park High School in Charlotte.

Bly played under Brown at UNC and became the first freshman defensive player to earn consensus First Team All-America honors back in 1996.
