A trip to the Queen City went about as well as it possibly could have Tuesday evening for the UNC baseball team, as the Tar Heels rolled to a 14-2 victory over the Charlotte 49ers at BB&T Ballpark.

It was the 10th time this season UNC (15-10) has scored in double figures this season, as the offense continues to round into midseason form.

The Tar Heels raced out to a 7-0 lead early in the game, and had every player in the starting lineup drive in or score at least one run.

Brandon Martorano and Kip Brandenburg each homered for UNC, while Brandon Riley drove in three runs and Kyle Datres tallied a team-high three hits–including a two-run triple.

By the end of the fifth inning, the Tar Heels held a 12-2 lead and the outcome was no longer in question at all.

Charlotte’s only offense came on a two-run homer by Dominick Cammarata against UNC starter Rodney Hutchison in the home half of the fourth.

Hutchison earned the win on the mound for the third consecutive start, after tossing six strong innings.

As a result, head coach Mike Fox earned his 1,400th career victory and UNC will head into its weekend series against Wake Forest with plenty of momentum.
