With speculation swirling that UNC freshman point guard Cole Anthony may sit out the rest of the season with the Tar Heels struggling to contend for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, Anthony himself put those rumors to bed on Tuesday night.

The native of New York City tweeted that his mind is made up, and that he will return to action for the Tar Heels as soon as he is medically cleared.

Anthony has been out with a torn meniscus since the Tar Heels loss to Wofford at home on Dec. 15, with the team going 2-6 in his absence to fall to 8-9 on the season–including a 1-5 record in ACC play.

In the nine games he played, Anthony led the team with 19.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

Injuries have had a huge impact on UNC’s season to this point, as Brandon Robinson, Andrew Platek, Sterling Manley Anthony Harris, Jeremiah Francis, Armando Bacot and Leaky Black have all battled ailments at some point–although some have been more serious than others.

On a team which head coach Roy Williams says is among the least gifted he’s ever coached, Anthony stood out as the one player with a chance to be selected near the top of this year’s NBA Draft.

His return could help stabilize a backcourt which has had four different players start at the point guard position this season, although it will still be an uphill climb for the Tar Heels to try and craft a resume that could get them into the NCAA Tournament.
