UNC freshman point guard Cole Anthony was named Monday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club as one of 50 players to watch this season for the Naismith Trophy Men’s Player of the Year honor.
Anthony arrived in Chapel Hill with significant hype as one of the nation’s top recruits and the MVP of both the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic.
With the Tar Heels losing their top five scorers from last season, Anthony is expected to immediately step in to a starring role for head coach Roy Williams.
He is one of seven ACC players on the Naismith Trophy Watch List.
The list of 50 players will be trimmed down to 30 in early February before being narrowed to 10 semifinalists on March 5 and then four finalists in on March 17.
