UNC freshman Cole Anthony was chosen Monday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as one of 20 preseason watch list candidates for the 2020 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award.

Since 2004, the award has been given to the top point guard in college basketball.

A total of three former Tar Heels have won the honor, including Raymond Felton (2005), Ty Lawson (2009) and Kendall Marshall (2012).

Anthony arrives in Chapel Hill with plenty of hype, hailed as one of the nation’s top high school recruits regardless of position. He was also the MVP of both the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, the top two high school showcase games.

He is expected to immediately take control of the Tar Heel offense, following the departure of last season’s top five scorers: Cameron Johnson, Coby White, Luke Maye, Kenny Williams and Nassir Little.

Other ACC point guard on this watch list are: Tre Jones (Duke), Trent Forrest (Florida State) and Kihei Clark (Virginia).
