One day after claiming the ACC Linebacker of the Week honor for his performance in UNC’s season-opening win over Syracuse, senior linebacker Chazz Surratt was recognized Tuesday as the Bednarik Award Player of the Week.
The Bednarik Award–which included Surratt on its preseason watch list–has been presented to the top defensive player in college football each year since 1995.
After a phenomenal season in 2019 in his first year as a linebacker, Surratt exploded out of the gates this past weekend with a team-high nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a career-high two sacks.
The former quarterback will once again lead the Tar Heel defense into battle at Kenan Stadium this Saturday, when they host Charlotte in a game set to kick off at 3:30 p.m.
