UNC freshman left-hander Caden O’Brien was named Thursday to the D1Baseball.com Freshman All-American Team after a debut season in which he compiled a 2.62 ERA across 48 innings of work.

The lefty also held opposing hitters to just a .185 batting average against him, while piling up 52 strikeouts in the process–more than one per inning.

A native of Maiden, North Carolina, O’Brien spent 2018 firmly establishing himself as one of the Tar Heels’ pitchers to watch in the future. In the College World Series opener against Oregon State–UNC’s only win in Omaha–O’Brien pitched 4.1 innings in relief and allowed just two hits.
