The release of the 2020 All-ACC football teams on Tuesday saw a total of 13 different Tar Heels recognized by the league for their efforts in guiding UNC to an 8-3 season and the program’s first ever Orange Bowl appearance.

Running back Michael Carter, linebacker Chazz Surratt and receiver Dyami Brown highlight the selections by virtue of being named to the All-ACC First Team.

Second team selections include quarterback Sam Howell and running back Javonte Williams.

Carter was also named to the Third Team as an all-purpose player alongside offensive guard Joshua Ezeudu.

Seven Tar Heels were chosen as All-ACC honorable mentions as well, a list that includes: safety Trey Morrison, center Brian Anderson, offensive tackle Jordan Tucker, offensive guard Marcus McKethan, defensive tackle Ray Vohasek, outside linebacker Tomon Fox and receiver Dazz Newsome.

Former Orange High School standout Payton Wilson of NC State was also named an All-ACC First Team performer.

This represents a huge leap forward for the Tar Heels, who had just four players named across all these teams in 2018–the last year before head coach Mack Brown returned for his second tenure.

Clemson and Notre Dame led all ACC teams with 12 players named to either the First, Second or Third Teams, followed by UNC, Miami, Boston College and Pitt with seven apiece.

The All-ACC teams are determined by a vote of 49 media members and all 15 of the league’s head coaches.
