The UNC men’s golf program won its second consecutive tournament and fifth of the season Tuesday, topping a nine-team field at The Calusa Cup in Naples, FL.

Carolina finished as the only team in the field under par, shooting four-under in Tuesday’s third and final round to finish the tournament with an identical four-under score. Wake Forest shot six-over par to finish in second place. The Demon Deacons and Tar Heels were among a strong field of contenders in Naples, as No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 2 Texas Tech and No. 5 Arizona State were all competing.

Four of UNC’s five golfers finished within the top 10 in the individual standings, with Ryan Burnett shooting five-under to win the individual title. Burnett shot four-under in the tournament’s first round and one-under in the second. He and Peter Fountain (also one-under) were two of only four golfers in the entire event to shoot below par on Monday. That performance helped the Tar Heels leapfrog the Demon Deacons for first place and stay there on Tuesday.

David Ford finished in seventh place at even par, and Dylan Menante and Fountain tied for ninth at three-over.

The men’s golf team now has just one tournament remaining before the ACC Championship later in April. The Tar Heels will travel out to Arizona for the Arizona State Thunderbird Collegiate on April 14 and 15. The conference championship begins on April 21 in Pinehurst.
