Carolina emerged victorious in road visits to Louisville and Appalachian State during the weekend to stay unbeaten in 2024.

At Louisville on Friday, Carolina pulled ahead in the first quarter on Molly Catchpole’s second goal of the season, but the Cardinals drew even midway through the second at 1-1. It was the first goal allowed by the Tar Heels in the first half this season.

The score stayed level until the fourth, when Sanne Hak finally gave UNC the lead back with her fourth goal of the year. Carolina would hold on for a 2-1 win.

Despite the close score, the Tar Heels dominated statistically, outshooting the Cardinals 21-4, including 10-3 in shots on target. Carolina took six penalty corners to Louisville’s two.

The top-ranked Tar Heels had a much easier time at Appalachian State on Sunday, dominating possession once again on their way to a 5-0 win. Goals from Charly Bruder and Ryleigh Heck staked UNC to a 2-0 halftime lead, and Catchpole scored for the second time in the weekend to push the lead to 3-0 at the end of the third quarter. Bruder completed a hat trick with two goals in the span of 1:10 in the fourth quarter.

Carolina outshot the Mountaineers 22-3 and allowed just one shot on target. Goalie Abigail Taylor made the save on that one shot to secure UNC’s sixth shutout of the year.

Now 10-0 overall and 4-0 in ACC play, Carolina will return home to Karen Shelton Stadium to host Wake Forest on Friday, October 18 at 6 p.m.
