Tomas Frick hit two home runs and collected six runs batted in for the Diamond Heels on Wednesday afternoon, helping Carolina blow out Penn State 15-5 at Boshamer Stadium.

Frick’s first homer, a two-run blast, opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. His second, a grand slam, blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth, and Carolina never looked back. It was part of a seven-run rally in the inning which flipped a 3-2 deficit into a 9-3 lead. The Nittany Lions had scored three runs in the top of the second to take the lead, but wouldn’t sniff it again after the fourth.

Hunter Stokely also went deep for Carolina as part of a 2-4, 3-RBI day at the plate. Stokely has a 1.100 OPS through after 14 games and is one of five Tar Heels with at least 10 games played to have an OPS of higher than 1.000.

Frick has been red-hot to begin the season and is tied for the team lead with a .400 batting average. His six home runs and 1.331 OPS are both second on the team, behind only Mac Horvath. Frick has recorded multiple hits in eight of Carolina’s 14 games, and Wednesday was his third game with at least three.

The Diamond Heels have scored 15 runs in two of their last three games and have scored at least 10 seven times. They’ll try to keep the bats hot as they begin ACC play in Chapel Hill this weekend, welcoming in No. 17 Virginia for a three-game series. Friday’s first game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
