Former UNC forward Kennedy Meeks–fresh off a run to the NCAA championship with the Tar Heels–signed a contract Tuesday with the NBA’s Toronto Raptors.
Meeks spent four games with the Raptors during the Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds–all while playing just under 16 minutes per outing.
The 6-foot-10-inch Charlotte native also reportedly won the respect of the Toronto front office with his gregarious personality and magnetic charm in the locker room.
At UNC, Meeks finished fifth on the school’s all-time career rebound list with 1,052. He also provided head coach Roy Williams with a steadying force in the paint for three seasons as a starter–including consecutive trips to the Final Four in 2016 and 2017.
Financial terms of Meeks’ contract with the Raptors were not disclosed, and it is not immediately clear whether the deal guarantees him a spot on the roster after training camp.
